The New Braunfels ISD Board of Trustees recognized Carly Yourman and Fernando Murra Vicario as its Students of the Month during a regular meeting that was held on Feb. 12.

The students were introduced to trustees by New Braunfels High School Principal Greg Hughes.

Carly Yourman has attended New Braunfels High School since her freshman years. She has been involved in numerous academic clubs, athletics and volunteer organizations during her high school career.

She is a varsity track and field athlete in the discus, and she is a Unicorn Handler. Additionally, Carly has been in choir leadership for three years, including this year as the choir president. She also is in the National Honor Society and an acapella union member. She is in three Advanced Placement classes: human geography, world history and environmental science. Carly also has taken four dual-credit classes – English 3, English 4, history and government.

Outside of school, she has worked at J&R Gymnastics. Carly also has volunteered with life skills P.E. classes at the Special Olympics, at the Humane Society, with candle making at Folkfest and at the kids craft station at the Dia de los Muertos Festival.

She currently holds a 3.96 grade-point average.

“I plan to go to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to major in environmental science,” Carly said. “I want to work in the National Parks Service to study the effects of human life on the Texas ecosystem.”

She is the daughter of Tammy and Brian Yourman.

Fernando Murra Vicario also attended NBHS for all four years of high school. He has been involved in athletics, clubs, volunteer work and more during his time at NBHS.

Fernando has been a four-year member of the Unicorn soccer team. He also was named an AP Scholar with distinction, a Hispanic Business Alliance Scholar and a National Hispanic Recognition Program recipient.

As a member of the NBHS Spanish Club, he serves as the co-vice president. Fernando is also the CyberPatriots team captain, a UIL academics accounting and current events team captain and secretary of the National Honor Society. He’s a two-time state qualifier in the Business Professionals of America competition in java programming C# programming and global marketing. Additionally, Fernando is the founder and vice president of the Model U.N. team and he is on the student council.

Outside of school, he has worked as a Chick-Fil-A leadership academy team member. He also has volunteered with the Dia de los Muertos Festival, Friends of the Library, Special Olympics and the Food Bank. He is the founder of a website called Creative Coding Hub, which teaches others how to code.

Fernando plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin where he plans to study data science.

He is the son of Isabel Vicario and Fernando Murra Farrus Sr.
