Nearly 2,000 people came through the doors of New Braunfels Middle School to witness the first ever New Braunfels ISD Art Showcase on Feb. 22.

The two-hour event brought in scores of community members and parents to view art that was on display by more than 600 student and area artists.

Dr. Marty Lenard, NBISD Director of Fine Arts, and campus art teachers have been working together to make this showcase a reality for more than a year. As for this inaugural event, Lenard said that it went as well as he could have imagined.

“We have received positive feedback from a wide range of parents, students and community members,” he said. “I would say that the event was a success based on the positive experiences everyone had during the event.”

Artists from the New Braunfels community also were on hand to showcase some of their work and knowledge.

“We wanted to incorporate local artists to show students and parents the vocational side of working in the creative industry,” Lenard said.

Students were provided the opportunity to see how making art can be a future career.

“I feel like the local artists added an extra layer to the event that made it even more of a success,” he said.

Moving forward, the plan is to have the art showcase annually. The fine arts department will continue to feature student artwork throughout the school year and each February they will continue to host the showcase event.
