New Braunfels High School Class of 2021 graduate, Carl Witherell, has been selected as the Chief of Staff for the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Witherell, a junior, is currently pursuing a major in biomedical science at Texas A&M University, with aspirations to become a doctor in the Army.

During his time at NBHS, Witherell was involved in baseball, basketball and the National Honor Society. Witherell also was recognized as a first-team academic all-district performer by the Texas High School Coaches Association in 2021.

The chief of staff position is one of four of the most senior leadership positions in the Corps of Cadets. Cadets complete a thorough selection process that consists of an application and an interview with a panel of peers and staff. All applicants are evaluated on academic performance, performance in the Corps, success in previous leadership positions, peer/staff evaluations, and their leadership vision for the future.

The Corps of Cadets was established in 1876 and is considered to be the oldest and largest student organization at Texas A&M. The organization provides a military-based cultural model and helps prepare cadets to lead at the community, state and national levels.
