The NBISD Administration has named Greg Hughes as the next principal of New Braunfels High School. He will begin his new role on July 1.
Hughes currently holds the position of Principal at New Braunfels Middle School, a post he has held since 2015. Prior to his time leading NBMS, he was an assistant principal at NBHS for two years and the district’s DAEP Administrator for one year.
“After eight terrific years serving as the NBMS principal, the next chapter of my career has arrived. I am excited for this new opportunity and look forward to returning to NBHS to serve this great community,” said Hughes.
Hughes began his career in education more than 20 years ago as an English teacher, physical education teacher and coach in Belton ISD. In his career, he also taught for Academy ISD and Judson ISD. In 2006, he began his career as a high school administrator in Poteet ISD before moving back to Belton ISD in 2009. He spent two years as an at-risk specialist in San Antonio ISD’s Sam Houston High School before coming to NBISD in 2012.
“During his time with NBISD, Principal Hughes has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, an unwavering commitment to student success, and a strong commitment to building positive relationships with staff, students, and families,” said Dr. Jim Largent, NBISD interim superintendent. “We are confident that his expertise and passion will serve our high school community exceptionally well.”
Hughes received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Mary Hardin-Baylor and his Master of Arts in Education Supervision from the University of Phoenix. He holds certifications as a Principal, secondary English teacher and Physical Education teacher.
In 2022, Hughes was named the first-ever Principal of the Year as part of the inaugural NBISD Excellence Awards. He and his wife, Windi, have three children.
