Khoal Hetchler and Skyler Bevis were announced as the November NBISD Students of the Month during a Nov. 13 Board of Trustees meeting.
New Braunfels High School Principal Greg Hughes introduced the pair of seniors to the trustees and audience who were in attendance.
Khoal Hetchler
Hetchler has attended NBHS for all four years of high school. She is captain of the varsity tennis team and competes in floral competitions with the NBHS FFA.Additionally, she works at Blumen Miesters Flower Shop, and she previously worked at the John Newcombe Country Club in childcare. Hetchler has also volunteered as a tennis coach and for the Hope Hospice Thrift Shop.
She has applied to 10 colleges that offer engineering programs as she is interested in majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Hetchler’s top college choices include Rice University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University because of their distinctive aerospace engineering programs.
“I hope to become an engineer working at an established aerospace company such as NASA, Blue Origin or Virgin Galactics,” Hetchler said. “I am not picky when it comes to the company, I just want to work at a company where I can practice aerospace engineering, learn new things and apply my problem solving skills.”
She is the daughter of Candee and Stacy Hetchler.
Skyler Bevis
Bevis also has attended NBHS for his entire high school career. Since attending NBHS, he has been involved in various extracurricular activities.
He is a key member of the Unicorn Soccer team, according to his coach Russell Houston. He also competes at the club level for local soccer club, Ajax. Bevis has volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at local thrift shops. He is also the team lead at his job at Waterworks Auto Spa.
After high school, he is planning to attend college as he has been applying to schools.
“In the fall, I plan on attending a college in Texas and majoring in engineering,” Bevis said. “In my free time, I plan on spending time with family and friends.”
