The season came down to the wire in the area championship for the New Braunfels High School girls soccer team. And although they came up just short against Round Rock Westwood for a spot at regionals, the ladies still had a great season, winning district, bi-district and bringing home a number of all-district team spots.
The Lady Unicorns finished the season with a 16-6-2 record overall and 9-0-1 in district play. All-district team accomplishments were led by junior midfielder Madison Creswell, who was named the Class 6A District 27 midfield player of the year.
Juniors Francesca Coronado and Lorian Lopez and sophomore midfielder Grasyn Unruh were named first-team all-district. This season, Coronado was a main goal scorer for the Lady Unicorns and was named the San Antonio Express-News’ Athlete of the Week after scoring three goals against rivals, New Braunfels Canyon. Lopez also was recognized by the San Antonio newspaper, earning a game ball after scoring two goals and assisting on another against East Central. Lopez also broke the NBHS record for assists in a season.
Senior midfielders Mackenzie Slater and Christina Archuletta, alongside sophomore defender Kennedie Moline were all named to the second team. Honorable-mention honors went to senior captain Mattie Taylor, senior forward Isabella Castilleja and junior midfielder Rayden Cranford.
