For the first time in New Braunfels ISD history, there are two head football coaching vacancies. These vacancies are also attached to the boys athletic coordinator positions at their respective campuses.
Since its inception, NBISD has been a one high school district, but Long Creek High School is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024. The Long Creek football coach and boys athletic coordinator position was posted in November and interviews will be conducted in January. The Long Creek High School girls athletic coordinator position will be selected in the coming weeks as well. The New Braunfels High School opening comes as Unicorn head football coach and NBHS boys athletic coordinator Glenn Mangold announced his retirement from public education on Jan. 10.
The interview process for all three positions will be identical for NBHS and LCHS and will consist of two rounds. The first round of interviews will be conducted by a committee consisting of campus staff, administrators and district level personnel. The second round of interviews will be held with the campus principal, athletic director and chief of schools.
“We will exercise due diligence in hiring these critical positions,” said NBISD Chief of Schools Wade Ivy. “We are committed to a process that gives campus and district stakeholders the opportunity to participate in the selection of these coaches while also providing transparency to the community on what the process looks like.”
In the interim, New Braunfels High School assistant head football coach and head track and field coach Jason Starnes will serve as the boys athletic coordinator at NBHS until a replacement is hired.
