The NBHS Marine Corps Junior ROTC Unit was once again recognized as a Naval Honor Unit for the 11th consecutive year.
The award recognizes the top 20 percent of more than 250 Marine Corps JROTC units across the country. The overall performance of each unit is evaluated by the following criteria: community service work, ceremonial events, extra-curricular participation, scholarships, scholastic performance, student government and the annual General’s Inspection.
The NBHS Marine Corps JROTC unit has now been awarded the Naval Honor School distinction a total of 21 times in the unit’s 42-year history. The NBISD Board of Trustees honored the unit for their accomplishment, during their Oct. 10, 2022, regular Board meeting.
“I am proud of the cadets and greatly appreciate the support provided by the NBHS and Ninth Grade Staff as well as the NBISD personnel,” said Lt.Col. Mark House, USMC (Ret), Senior Marine Instructor at NBHS.
NBHS is part of Region 5, the largest Region in the country with more than 60 programs. Along with the Honor School distinction, this allows the Senior Marine Instructor to nominate cadets to all of the U.S. Service Academies to then compete for an appointment.
