It was a year to remember for New Braunfels High School Softball Coach Samantha Flick as she led the Lady Unicorns to the regional semifinals, and now, she has been announced as Texas High School Coaches Association’s (THSCA) Class 6A Region 8 Coach of the Year.

Flick, among other regional coach of the year winners, will be up for the state award from THSCA. The awards committee will select a winner in the near future.

In 2023, Flick’s team earned the district championship en route to a 24-15 overall mark (8-3 in district). After winning a one-game playoff against East Central to claim the district crown, the Lady Unicorns defeated San Antonio Lee to win the bi-district championship. NBHS area and regional quarterfinal wins over Cedar Park Vista Ridge and Austin Bowie. Ultimately, NBHS came just shy of state, falling to San Benito in game three of a best-of-three series.
