Karrigan Staats, Karlee Johnston and Nora Tingleff have been building a model rocket for a contest.

The trio of juniors will be competing in the Rocketry Challenge, which is the world’s largest rocket contest. They used a simulator to help them design the rocket along with the help of Donald Cosgrove who is their rocketry mentor.

These students spent hours building the rocket and they had an impressive flight in their first attempt. Their rocket reached 1,116 feet in 55 seconds while the requirements have a minimum standard of 820 feet in 43-46 seconds.

Their next qualification attempt will take place in April, and they will travel to Virginia to compete for a cash prize for NBHS.
