New Braunfels ISD Administration is pleased to announce Mary Coronado has been named the new Director of Health Services. She will begin her new role on July 1.
Coronado has been an integral part of NBISD’s health services for the past 13 years, serving as a dedicated school nurse since 2009. Currently, she holds the position of lead nurse at Veramendi Elementary.
“I am very excited about this new opportunity to serve the students and staff of NBISD. I absolutely love school nursing and school health,” Coronado said. “I want to extend my thanks to those who selected me for this position, and I can’t wait to begin this journey.”
Prior to her tenure with NBISD, Coronado also served as a school nurse in the North East Independent School District. Before her time in education, Coronado served as a pediatric nurse manager at Women’s and Children’s Hospital for three years. Additionally, she has worked as a nurse at various hospitals in Houston, Corpus Christi and San Antonio, accumulating a wide range of experiences and skills in different healthcare settings.
Coronado graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center. She is a licensed registered nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
In her new position, Coronado will be responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of students across the district, collaborating with school nurses, administrators and healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
“Coronado will be an asset to our district leadership. She will continue our commitment to providing the highest standard of care for our students and staff,” said Jennifer Garcia-Edwardson, Chief of Elementary Schools. “Her educational background and extensive experience makes her an exceptional choice for the role of Director of Health Services.”
Coronado has been married to her husband Mark for 32 years. They have five children, all raised in New Braunfels, and all five attended NBISD schools from kindergarten through graduation.
