New Braunfels ISD Administration is pleased to announce Michelle Harwood has been named the new Director of Communications. She assumed her new role on June 1.

Harwood previously worked in NBISD for 12 years before returning as the Director of Communications. She first joined the district in 2010 as a fifth-grade teacher at Walnut Springs Elementary. In 2014, Harwood then transitioned into a districtwide support role as an Instructional Technology Specialist, a position she held for eight years.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to return to New Braunfels ISD in this new role,” Harwood said. “NBISD is where my heart has always been, and I could not be more excited to serve the students, staff, parents and community members of this exceptional district.”

Harwood’s 15-year career spans across various areas including education, technology and communications. She has several years experience as a Marketing and Social Media consultant working with local businesses where she gained expertise in web design, digital marketing, blogging and executing successful social media campaigns. She also spent the last year of her career in the corporate world where she helped lead Kinetix Technologies in their client success, public speaking and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Harwood received both her Masters of Arts in Education degree in 2012 and her undergraduate degree in 2007 from the University of Texas in San Antonio. She has also presented at national conferences such as Texas Computer Education Association, International Society for Technology in Education and National Science Teaching Association.

In her new role, Harwood will combine her education, communications and corporate experiences to promote positive public relations between the school district and community. She will also be responsible for providing information to the public and NBISD staff about the activities, goals and policies of the school district.

“We are glad to welcome Michelle back to our team at New Braunfels ISD,” said Matt Jones, Chief Officer of Communications and Technology. “I have full confidence in her ability to lead our communications efforts, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact Michelle and her team will make as we continue to strengthen our connections between our district and the community.”

Harwood resides in New Braunfels with her husband, Matt, and daughter, Reece, who attends school here in NBISD.
