It was a thrilling weekend for the New Braunfels High School baseball team as the Unicorns brought home the area championship!

The Unicorns took two of three games from Dripping Springs in a best-of-three area series. New Braunfels defeated San Antonio Churchill for the bi-district championship the week before.

Game 1 of the area series was delayed by lightning on Thursday night, but the Unicorns prevailed in extra innings with a 1-0 win. On the Tigers’ home field, Dripping Springs came out on top with a 4-0 win over New Braunfels to tie the series at one game apiece. The finale was another 1-run game that went into extra innings. In the end, the Unicorns won in walk-off fashion with a 7-6 win in Buda.

Up next, the Unicorns will be playing in the regional quarterfinals against San Antonio Reagan. Like the Unicorns, the Rattlers finished in first place in their district, 6A-28. The Rattlers upended Clemens in the opening round and followed that with a win over Round Rock in the area round.
