New Braunfels High School’s volleyball game on Friday, Oct. 6, called for a special celebration as Head Coach Kate Zora earned her 600th win.
The milestone win came at the hands of the Judson Rockets during a district match in Converse. The Lady Unicorns currently sit in second place (4-1, 24-15) in the Class 6A District 27 standings. New Braunfels won the district championship in 2022, which was Zora’s first season with the Unicorns. Zora has amassed 50-plus wins in her less than two seasons with the Unicorns.
Prior to New Braunfels, Zora served as the head coach at Klein High School in the Houston area. There, she coached her teams to four back-to-back trips to the regional tournament as well as finishing as state runners-up in 2020. She also coached at A&M Consolidated, where in her lone season, her team finished as a state semi-finalist. Zora started her coaching career at Westwood High School in Austin. In nearly 10 seasons at Westwood, she coached her teams to four regional tournaments.
As a coach, Zora also has garnered a number of accolades including being named District Coach of the Year in four separate seasons, and in 2020, she earned the AVCA Region Coach of the Year.
She will go for win 601 as the Lady Unicorns are in the midst of the district season. The team is scheduled to play at Steele on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
