The New Braunfels ISD Athletic Department is delighted to announce that Jacob Wertz has been named the new head wrestling coach at New Braunfels High School.

Wertz also will serve as an assistant football coach and history teacher. He comes to Unicorn Country with previous head wrestling coaching experience. Most recently, he coached at Lockhart High School as the football team’s co-offensive coordinator and head girls powerlifting coach.

“I look forward to working with the outstanding student athletes in NBISD and I am excited for the opportunity to work with one of the many great athletic programs the district has to offer,” Wertz said.

Wertz holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in secondary education from Texas Tech University. He is a certified teacher in history and physical education.

“Coach Wertz is an outstanding young coach,” said NBISD Athletic Director Jim Streety. “He brings head wrestling coaching experience to the table and will do a great job continuing to develop our program.”

Wertz’s wife Gabrielle is a counselor at the Ninth Grade Center. They have 3-year-old twin boys Parker and Peyton.
